The project that seems like it's never going to end...Part 2

Let's see, where we last left off with this one was we had gotten the mirrors down and the wall repaired.  Next we took the trim off of the doors and drawers  so they didn't seem so dated. Then it was time to sand them down, which was really fast and easy with my handy hand sander that hubby got me (I love this thing and have thought about painting it pink LOL).



After the first sanding we then puddied all the cracks and dips in the wood which was a little harder then it looked because the wood is so dark. We had to run our hands over the wood several times to find all the spots.




Time to sand again, once those were done it was time to sand the base itself. At this point I highly suggest that you have some tack clothes around for the dust that gets everywhere when you sand, of course it would have been better if we could have done this out side but being attached to the wall makes that a bit difficult. After all the sanding was done it was time to prime everything and then start painting. Oh yeah clean out all the junk that is in there goodness how did that happen!

Art Journal In Progress

I wanted to show some progress of a page I have been working on in my art journal. I have to say I am excited for the kids to get back to school next week (as much as I hate the idea too)  so that I have more artistic time during the day.  I have really missed working on some art this summer. Though I have gotten several projects done so I have been productive.

I sketched out my face and then started to color in with my favorite medium, water color crayons. Then I moved into adding some acrylic paints and graphite pencils.




I played with adding some highlights to her hair and then colored in the background and side page.





      And here is what I have so far. I am going to add some quotes to the other side to complete the page. I liked the way it turned out so much that I have used it as my blog button that you can grab on your right. Thanks for stopping by.

Project Runway......

I am so thrilled that the new season has started, I just love this show. It is hard for me to pick favorites before a couple of shows have been on but I have to say that Bert who was the winner this week is sure to make the list. This is his winning creation and its beautiful. I have such high hopes so far since the one I felt should win this week did, I tend to be upset with the judges on many of their choices, which I am sure will happen many times this season too.


This creation by Bryce is another one that I fell in love with on the runway. I can't wait to see what else she has in store of us in the coming shows.

Now for the outfit that I didn't like like at all and once again I totally agreed with the judges on this one by Rafael. I just can't believe that he didn't understand what was wrong with it. The pants to me made this flat stomach model look like she had the biggest pooch.

I am very excited about this season and it looks like there are some amazing designers on. Next weeks show looks like a really fun and crazy challenge and I am always amazed with what they are able to come up with for the things they have to use.

The project that seems like it's never going to end....

As I have posted before I have been painting the paneling in my living room and man I am really starting to think this thing is taking over my life lol.  So we have been working on the wet bar area and man I really thought this would go a lot faster, but as know once you get going things come up.  The first thing we did was to take the trim off of all the doors and drawers which I feel was really dating the look of this area. With doing this it is already looking better.

Next it was time to tackle taking  down the 70's style mirrors and this was no small feat. Aft some research we decided to go with the wire/cut through glue method. So hubby climbed up and spent about two hours wiggling the wire back and forth behind the mirrors to cut through the glue that was holding them on. There were several times that we thought that they were going to break but I was thrilled and amazed that hubby got all three of them down without anything breaking.

With the mirrors off now there was the problem of the damage to the wall behind them. The mirrors had been put on with liquid nails of some sort, so it tore of parts of the sheet rock, and where we had to scrap glue off that meant we scrapped off the texture also.



After chatting with a friend about the best way to fix this we decided to just add the mud compound (after watering it down a bit) to the primer  paint and just roll it onto the wall with a fuzzy roller brush. We did about two coats of this mixture and it worked wonderfully and you can't tell that there had been so much damage to the wall.

I am exhausted again just posting about it gee sh.. I will post more to show the progress that we have made.

4th of July Wreath

 I have been needing to get this posted as usual I have let life take control of my time and fallen behind on my posting.  I made this wreath for my front door for the month of July. I had seen this idea on a Pintrest (man isn't that just the coolest thing) and feel in love with it.

YOU'LL NEED:

18"  Styrofoam wreath

12" x 12" sheets of scrapbook paper

Ruler

Scissors/Paper trimmer

Bone folder 

Wooden stars

                                                                                                      Hot-glue gun

1. Cut a sheet of paper into 6 pieces, each measuring 4" x 6", for large medallions. (To create a medium-size one, use 3" x 6" sheets, and for the small size, use a 2 1/2" x 3 1/4" sheet.)    

 2. Fold each piece of paper width wise in 3/8" wide accordion-style pleats. I used my score board to make this process go a lot faster and easier. Use a bone folder or the edge of a metal ruler to sharpen creases.

3. Fold each pleated piece of paper in half and hot glue  inner edges together. Gently spread pleats apart. Arrange three fanned pieces together to form a circle, and join with tape. Add a star sticker to center. You will need approximately 40 of these medallions to create the wreath.

4. I painted my wreath red before adding the medallions, you can also wrap it in ribbon to cover it. Starting with largest medallion, hot-glue each to wreath. Continue with medium and small sizes until wreath is covered  I painted and glittered the stars and then added them around the wreath. Lastly I glued a piece of ribbon to the back for the hanger. 

This wreath will also work great for memorial day, so it will get used more than once a year.
